Experience Sound – Feel Vibration – Explore Resonance

Dates:

May 30, 2026: 3-6 pm
June 13, 2026: 3-6 pm

In this two-part workshop, participants will be introduced to the Body Tambura as a sound, therapeutic, and body-oriented instrument. Across two sessions of 3 hours each, we will explore the rich overtone sound of the instrument, its tuning, playing techniques, and different ways of working with its vibrations and resonance.

There will be ample opportunity for hands-on playing as well as for the receptive experience of “being played” by the instrument. Gentle breathing and relaxation exercises support a deeper connection to sound, presence, and embodied awareness.

The Body Tambura is experienced not only through hearing, but also through subtle vibrations felt throughout the body. Its harmonious sound field can support relaxation, grounding, body awareness, and inner calm, while offering unique possibilities for therapeutic, meditative, and creative work.

The workshop includes practical foundations in:

  • playing technique and handling of the instrument
  • tuning the Body Tambura
  • sound perception and resonance
  • therapeutic and body-oriented applications

This workshop is open to musicians, therapists, sound practitioners, bodyworkers, and anyone interested in exploring the transformative qualities of sound. No previous musical experience is required.

Vibration as a path to stillness

Lydia Röder is a sound practitioner and end-of-life companion from Berlin, Germany, known for her distinctive work with the Body Tambura™, gongs, and singing bowls. For many years, she has explored sound not only as something we hear, but as vibration we feel – a form of embodied presence, resonance, and inner connection.

At the heart of her artistic and therapeutic practice is the Body Tambura, a finely hand-crafted sound sculpture by Klangwerkstatt Deutz (Berlin, Germany). Resting directly on the body, the instrument makes vibration tangible – sound becomes something that is not only heard through the ears, but experienced through the whole body. Its warm, subtle vibrations create a sense of calm, sensory awareness, and deep relaxation. Its resonance invites people to listen with the whole body, creating a field where perception becomes quieter, slower, and more intimate.

Since 1988, Lydia has accompanied people at the end of life. After more than two decades leading an outpatient hospice service, she now teaches in the fields of dying, death, grief, and Spiritual and Existential Care. She weaves her long experience in hospice and palliative work together with yoga, grief support, and sound therapy.

In her courses and sound sessions, Lydia uses the Body Tambura to explore how communication and connection can arise on many levels — through sound, touch, presence, and also through language. Especially in situations where words become limited or no longer available, the Body Tambura offers a non-verbal space of resonance and orientation. At the same time, language, attention, and shared silence remain important parts of human contact. Her work is guided by the belief that sound can offer comfort, grounding, and a sense of inner coherence – especially in times of transition.

Einführung in das Spiel der Körpertambura

Klang erleben – Schwingung spüren – Resonanz erfahren

Termine:

30.05.2026, 15:00 – 18:00 Uhr
13.06.2026, 15:00 – 18:00 Uhr
